Top 5 Best Beginner Knitting Patterns and Projects

This Blog is guest written by one of our Staff Jesse Holcombe. She is not only a talented knitter and pattern designer but she also is one of our dye team members. She actually dyed this braid for January herself. This braid was on a Targhee Sheep wool and is from a small USA farm like all of our fiber braids. Please follow her and her very popular instagram account @thedancingpines

I'm a self taught Knitter, and if you are new to knitting, I'll bet you are, too. By now, you may be feeling confident with the knit stitch and are ready to move on to a bigger project! Here I have put together a list of my most favorite beginner knitting patterns!

Grain Shawl

The Grain Shawl by Tin Can Knits is one of their Simple Collection patterns, designed especially for those just starting out. Simple, but beautiful, this pattern will leave you with an FO (finished object) you'll be proud of!

Tin Can Knits also has a ton of tutorials to help if you ever feel stuck!

Serenity Scarf

The Serenity scarf was one of my first knits, and I tell you, I LOVE this pattern! (I'm knitting it for the 3rd time now!)

By the time you are done, you'll be more than confident in those purl stitches, as well as simple decreases and increases.

Graham Beanie

Ready for knitting in the round? Graham is my favorite beanie pattern so far. It's reversible, unisex, and oh so wearable!

My daughter stole my first knit with this pattern, so it will definitely be hitting my needles again!

Trescao Jumper

So, you've knit a beanie or two, and sweaters are up next! (Trust me, they aren't as scary as they seem, and with the patterns listed above, picking up stitches is the only new technique you'll be learning here!)

This was my first sweater I ever knit, and will treasure the experience forever!

DK Weight Vanilla Socks
Some people never get over their fear of knitting socks, but I sure hope you do!

This maker has videos on making socks with dpn's, magic loop, and even 9" circulars. That means she has you covered on helping you discover your new favorite way to knitting your own socks!

I can't wait to see what you cast on next!
